I fell asleep last night fully clothed on top of the covers and woke up at 4am. That could not stand and I fell back asleep until 6:30am. The movie Double Jeopardy with Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones was on tv so I enjoyed some mindless entertainment before heading downstairs for a caffeine fix.
Upon returning to the room I grabbed a shower and remembered I forgot to mention yesterday that the Hot/Cold on the shower handle works in reverse. The water temperature begin on the hottest setting and you have to turn clockwise to add in cooler water. Talk about an unwelcome surprise at first.
And away we go…
Headed down to the casino floor and decided I would shake things up this trip and play some slot machines. I found a $1 WOF, sat down and put a crisp hundy into the machine. My first 3 spins (max credits) resulted in winning my bet back. A few spins later I won $111 and then remained about neutral until the slot machine gods finally deigned to award me some spins on the big wheel.
Seeing as the Covid lockdown has basically kept me out of the sun, I decided to head down to the Garden of the Gods at Caesars. While I cannot compete with Pennys4Vegas in the paleness category, I definitely needed some sun. I picked up my complimentary towel and chose a chair right in line with the sun’s rays. I lasted about a half hour before the heat became too much. Hopefully I do not get a sunburn and can ramp it up to 45 minutes tomorrow.
I decided to play some more slots and got a few spins on the big wheel. However, the wins were not much help and i was down $500 on the slots for the day. As such, I switched over to blackjack.
I bought in at a $25min. table and began playing. The shoe was up and down when a drunk Asian kid sat down with one $25 free bet coupon. He outright stated he usually plays three card poker but they would not allow him to use the free bet coupon on that game and so he sat at the first table other than three card poker he came across. Naturally, he won three hands in a row and then continued playing, exclaiming “Wow, blackjack is pretty easy”. His run of good luck did not continue and he was soon gone.
A new dealer tapped in wearing a face mask and plastic shield. Nothing wrong with that, except she kept attempting to have a conversation with me. I could not decipher what she was saying so, after about 10 minutes of asking her to repeat what she was saying, I decided to just nod my head to whatever she was saying. God only knows what I was agreeing with. However, after playing for about 30 minutes I had regained $50 that I had lost playing slots.
Trip is -450
Of course, it would not be a proper Vegas trip without meeting up with Lucky. We hit the Strip to survey how busy/not busy some of the properties were. We hit The Linq, Harrah’s, Venetian and TI. The Linq was a ghost town. Harrah’s had a good sized crowd. The Venetian was just as busy, if not busier, than Caesars Palace. TI had a strong ammonia smell - the fumes were unbearable and I am not sure how anyone could play there for any length of time.
After bidding Lucky a good day, I headed back to the room and, although I was going to take a nap, I noticed that the bathtub was actually a jacuzzi tub. I immediately began filling it with water and voila, instant relaxation for approximately 30 minutes.
Adequately refreshed, I headed down to the casino and sidled up to a $50min. game. Naturally, after just 5 hands, another player sat down and informed the dealer he hadn’t played blackjack in years. Although this could have been a cover, he asked the dealer and me how to play every hand, did not know how to make hand signals and one time told me he did not double because he did not want to change the flow of the cards. Regardless, it was a good shoe and at the end I had regained $125.
Trip -325
As dinner time approached I decided to enjoy a nice steak at The Palm inside the Caesars Forum Shops. They seated me in a comfortable booth socially distanced from other diners.
I ordered the 9 oz. filet mignon cooked medium with a half-sized order of hand cut French fries.
The walk back to the room hit the spot as I was beyond full from the delicious dinner.
After relaxing in the room a bit I headed back down to the casino floor where it started to look and feel more like the Vegas I remember as there were many more people playing and walking around than even earlier today.
I sat down at a WOF slot machine and on my first spin I won $6 and then a few spins later, got a chance at the big wheel - which resulted in a win of $150. I thought I recorded it but apparently I did not (cue sad trombone).
Trip -170
Between laying out by the pool in the hot sun and walking the Strip with Lucky earlier today, I am wiped out. Thus ends another day in Vegas with the weekend on the horizon.
